When my Trane AC500 humidifier started leaking about a month ago (8 years since installation), I discovered that the plumbing company which installed it and do semi-annual maintenance never apprised me of the need to change the filters at least once a year, nor did they inspect it. The bottom of the plastic frame holding the filter had gunked up so much that the water was flowing over and down the wall from the attic into the utility closet. So, realizing this Trane unit would last probably another 10 years or that I would replace it with another like unit, I decided to "invest" in a 10-pack of filters, bringing the unit price down to about $5.50. The first filter is in place and working as specified. Shipping was very timely and the charge was waived -- probably because of the dollar value of the order.
