The aftermarket ClearChoice "Natural" CLCH102-N is used in refrigerators by GE, Amana, Hotpoint, Kenmore and others. It is designed to replace the MWF® SmartWater filter from GE. I have ordered these filters in the past, and have been a customer for a few years. They work as advertised, nothing wrong with their functionality. However, after receiving my last order, I went to install the new filter into the fridge, and had a very hard time connecting it. It took a lot of muscle. Upon examination of the old and new filter, it appears that the inlet hole of the new filter is about 1 mm narrower than the old one. I did get it installed and it works as it should, but the extreme effort on installing it drives the three star rating. I suggest a quality control check on these particular models.

Initially after trying this product the refrigerator water had an unpleasant plastic aftertaste. After additionally draining more than a gallon of water through it improved but makes me worry about country of origin for materials or manufacturing location ? Quality? Purity? The brand name product I purchased for 15 years does cost almost twice the price - but didn’t have the odd taste of this less expensive one. After two weeks of usage, this filter seems to function as well as the much higher priced OEM version. Without chemical analysis, can't tell if it is filtering undesirable elements as well as the OEM product, but from a taste, smell and operational standpoint, this replacement seems to work well enough. Unless experience changes in the future, would reorder same product without hesitation.

I had some reservations about ordering ClearChoice Replacement for my GE MWF Filter as it was about 1/3 the cost I pay for the actual GE product. However ClearChoice's website is a safe and respected one. I figured I had little too lose so I ordered it. In my opinion it is as good as the GE filter I have been using for several years. How to install

How To Install The MWF Filter:

The water filter cartridge is located in the back upper right corner of the refrigerator compartment. The filter cartridge should be replaced when the replacement indicator light turns red or if the flow of water to the dispenser or icemaker decreases. For refrigerators without an indicator light - replace the filters every 6 months.

Remove old filter cartridge by grasping and turning to the left about 1/2 turn
Fill the replacement filter with water from the tap to allow for better flow immediately after installation
Place the top of the new cartridge up inside the cartridge holder
Slowly turn the filter until the filter cartridge stops. Do not over tighten. As you turn the cartridge it will automatically raise itself into position. The cartridge will move about 1/2 turn
Run water from the dispenser for 3 minutes (about 1-1/2 gallons) to clear the system and prevent sputtering
Press and hold reset water filter button if your fridge has one
